VALE STUART GORDON
Stuart Gordon was the founder and principal of the Glengowan Angus Stud which celebrated 50 years of membership of the Angus Society in 2007. Stuart was an active and dedicated Angus breeder who enjoyed considerable show success with his cattle over many years. The Glengowan Angus Stud exhibited at shows all over Australia and received many awards for both stud and commercial cattle. The Sydney Royal Easter Show was the venue for many of Glengowan’s achievements in the ring and Stuart exhibited cattle at the show for thirteen years consecutively. Over that time the Glengowan Angus Stud was awarded Supreme Champion, two Grand Champions, two Senior Champions, several Junior Champions, numerous Senior and Junior Reserve Champions, most Successful Exhibitor on two occasions, four Sires Progeny awards, many medals and all of the major trophies of the time including the GT Reid Cup, the Downsbragh Trophy and The Andrew Reid Trophy, which was awarded to Stuart three years in a row.
Stuart served on numerous Angus State Committees and was President of the Angus Society of Australia from 1979-1981, a period of his life which gave him many opportunities to travel and to make lifelong friendships with fellow Angus breeders all over the world. Stuart was also an Honorary life Member of the Angus Society. Out of a membership of over 3000 people there are only 26 life members- and although their achievements are not well documented, they each made an enormous contribution to the development of the breed.
A memorial service for Stuart’s life was held in Blayney on 19 September 2008.
